Teprel is a company that is aware of its surroundings and recognizes the importance of having a positive economic, social and environmental impact. Everyone needs to be increasingly involved in order to minimize the problems faced by today’s societies. More than ever, it’s up to each one of us to make a difference! In addition to the projects we have already implemented in this area, we are now committed to providing our employees with the conditions to volunteer for a day, in terms of identifying volunteering opportunities and giving up time during working hours. We’ve identified various options for volunteering in areas such as the environment, education, health, citizenship, animals and social intervention in Porto and Lisbon.
• Developing new skills; • Actively participating in the implementation of the company’s social and environmental responsibility strategy; • Learning about the various volunteering options that exist in the geographical areas affected by Teprel, as well as the duration and type of volunteering (face-to-face or distance); • Having or repeating the experience of being a volunteer; • Socializing with colleagues from other departments; • Promoting mutual help and dialogue between employees; • Practicing physical exercise;
The first activities have already taken place and we’re sharing some images of those moments with you:
The first ‘’Being a Teprel Volunteer‘’ corporate volunteering activity was at the Fundação Alberto Canedo in Porto. The Fundação Alberto Canedo was founded 10 years ago and its main mission is to deliver food baskets to needy families in the Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and Gondomar areas. Every day, food is collected in the morning and distributed to the various families in the afternoon. As soon as the food arrives at the Foundation, it has to be sorted and divided among the different families according to household. This process is time-consuming and labour-intensive and all help is welcome. Afterwards, all the baskets have to be loaded into the Foundation’s van for distribution. Our volunteers learnt about and helped with this project! The second corporate volunteering activity “Being a Teprel Volunteer” was different, to say the least. This time, the activity took place at the Centro de Recolha Animal de Matosinhos, where Teprel volunteers were able to take the dogs up for adoption for a walk that allowed them to play, learn and exercise. The aim of this action was to socialize the animals and make them known to society, while all the participants actively contributed to improving the welfare of these animals. It’s a way of raising awareness of the scourge of abandonment and the importance of adoption at animal collection centres, where hundreds of animals of different sizes, breeds, ages and personalities await a new family. The tour lasted 2 hours and went from CROAM, through the Science Park to the Monte de São Brás Ecological Park. In the end, everybody won!
After the success in Porto, it was the turn of Lisbon team members to be challenged. At Casa dos Animais de Lisboa dozens of animals are waiting for a new family and there’s nothing like giving them a fun outing. In addition to the tours and natural interaction on a sunny morning, the volunteers were able to learn about all the facilities of a CAL, visit the premises and learn more about stray animals, sterilization programmes, capture and return, vaccination, socialization, treatment, among other topics. These activities are aimed at fostering team spirit among employees, promoting moments of leisure while publicizing various volunteering opportunities that anyone can join. Many kilometres have been travelled and many fears overcome. Together, we shared responsibilities, trust and smiles.
